The Media Committee held its first meeting on Wednesday, February 23 at 6:00pm in Farm Classroom 103 and learned all about company, organization, and personal branding. Below are photos from the event as well as content covered during the meeting:
A brand is "the outcome of creating and widely circulating a company or organization's name, qualities, and overall personality” (example: McDonald's)
What makes a brand unique is its unique selling position or "well thought out statement or visual that helps you distinguish yourself from others in similar categories. What helps is focusing on a single feature that satisfies a need, solves a problem, or serves as a sense of reliability to consumers"
Style points to consider or questions to ask yourself include: minimalism or maximalism? muted or bright colors? legibility or artistic imagery? words or pictures? creativity or professionalism?
Common steps to brainstorming a brand logo include: writing words that describe your brand (examples: calm, casual, professional, approachable, aspirational, fun, daring, eloquent, energetic, mindful, motivated, etc.), sketching ideas or images for these words, searching for fitting fonts & color schemes, then beginning to develop a logo using a free design platform (like Canva)!
Design tips that can help guide you in the right direction include: use complimentary colors, ensuring clean/clear images, being aware of space, messing with scale (big/small), forming cohesion by keeping fonts to a limit of 1-2, and saving time by using a template.
We should all be trusting our instincts and design skills! There’s always room for improvement but, at the end of the day, creativity should be valued for any effort towards fostering it.
We had a great time discussing gems & areas for opportunity then directly applying feedback by trying new things! Be sure to join us for our next meeting on Wednesday, March 8th at 6:00pm in Farm Classroom 103 to cover the topic of photography. 📷
